Gregory's obituary
He is survived by his parents Mary and Tim Nicholson; his sister Rachael (Bryan) Crnarich, his nephew and niece Brayden and Riley Crnarich; his brother Trevor (Emilie) Nicholson and a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Greg was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan to Mary and Tim Nicholson on May 9, 1981. In 1984, the family moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana where Greg enjoyed Scouts, Swim Team and his neighborhood buddies. He formed a Jr. High rock band and also performed in school plays. Greg had the wonderful opportunity to join the University of Michigan Solar Car Team on their solar car race.
As a Freshman, Greg moved to Westerville, Ohio, where he established great friendships, played sports and performed with several bands. He lettered in swimming.
In 2004, he graduated from University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, with a BFA in Electronic Media, while on the Dean’s List. He was involved in the campus radio station and recorded a CD with his band Velvet Dreamfield, and later toured with the band Peter Adams and the Nocturnal Collective, on a four-state tour including performances at the South by Southwest Music Festival. Greg’s brother Trevor served as a tireless roadie for the tour, and a good time was had by band members and fans.
Following graduation, he began his video production career with firms in Cincinnati and Columbus. He was a skilled editor, producer and emerging technologies expert. Greg regularly participated in the 48 Hour Film Project, in which a complete movie was written, shot and edited in a 48 hour period. He regularly attended professional development opportunities including the NAB Convention in Las Vegas.
Later in his career, Greg transitioned to selling, engineering and organizing large A/V installations for clients in the Midwest. One of his larger projects was a multiple camera video production truck for ESPN. During his seven years in the A/V Integration industry, he was top salesman for two years.
Greg recently had made the transition back into the video production industry, helping clients realize their creative vision.
Greg was deeply loved by family, friends, bandmates, and co-workers. He was an amazing and loving Uncle to Brayden and Riley. He owned a home in Clintonville which was often the site of jam sessions and social gatherings. Greg had many friends who loved him, and he loved them. He loved the outdoors. Whether he was snowboarding, hiking, kayaking or camping, he enjoyed exploring new areas with his friends and family. Greg also spent his time viewing artsy films, exploring new pubs, attending outdoor events and working for social justice organizations. He also loved his dog, Charlie.
Greg will be very missed by family, friends, and coworkers. He loved and was loved fiercely, and his family intends to live their best possible lives to honor his memory.
