Gregory's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gregory Merle Davidson, a notable figure, exceptional father, and a former professional football player with the Houston Oilers. Born on the 24th of April, 1958 in Independence, Iowa, Greg had a rich and fulfilling life, characterized by his larger than life personality, his love for his family, and his kindness to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Anyone who knew Greg well would agree that he lived his life his way. He could chat for hours about history, football, life, and, really anything. He loved to reminisce. He was a devoted father, evident in the solid character of his four sons, who continue their father's legacy.
Greg was a man of many accomplishments, but he often said that his greatest achievement was his family. He was a proud father to four sons and an even prouder grandfather to four beautiful granddaughters. His love for his family was palpable and he often taught them about football, a sport he cherished, and the importance of family, the cornerstone of his life.
As a professional athlete, Greg spent some of his best years playing in the National Football League (NFL) for the Houston Oilers. He had a long career in football from his younger years, stretching through his time at North Texas State University to his glory days as a pee wee football coach for the Klein Oilers, especially for all four of his sons. His achievements on the field were a testament to his discipline, passion, and love for the sport. But more than anything, he would want to be remembered not just as a good football player, but a good grandpa, who was always there with a story to tell, a joke to crack, and a hug to give.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle Davidson and Carol Rosser. Survivors include his son Gregory Beau Davidson and wife Leandra of Memphis, Tennessee; son Christian Stephen Davidson and wife BriAnn of Azle, Texas; Son Cutler William Davidson and wife Allie of Tomball, Texas; son Peter Walker Davidson of Lake Jackson, Texas; granddaughters Adleigh Ann, Emma Leigh, Berkley Nicole and Kate Ashley Davidson; brother Randall Davidson of Conroe, Texas; brother Scott Davidson and wife Lela of Washington, Texas; sister Sheryl Schmid and husband Mark of Washington, Texas; brother Daniel Davidson and wife Kasey of Montgomery, Texas; brother Zack Rosser of Orange, Texas. Other survivors include numerous loved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
Greg will be remembered as a man of high spirits who touched many lives. His kindness, love, and legacy will forever live on through his family and all the lives he touched. His memory will always be a beacon of inspiration and a reminder of the importance of family. His loss leaves a void that can never be filled, but his spirit will forever be a comforting presence in the hearts of many. Rest in peace, Greg, your life was a testament to love and strength.
