Gregory's obituary
Gregory Alan Childs, 74, of Dansville, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 28, 2025, with his daughter and future son-in-law by his side, after a difficult battle with cancer. He faced his illness with quiet strength and resilience, often sharing a gentle smile even in his final days. While we mourn his absence, we find comfort in knowing that Greg is now in God's loving care, free from pain and suffering and finally at rest in everlasting peace.
Born on August 19th, 1950, Gregory was the beloved son of the late Douglas Childs and Ola Nash Childs. He was a brother to Doug Childs and the late Richard “Dick” Childs. Gregory was the father of four children: Gregory Isaac, born to his ex-wife Maureen Isaac; and Richie Childs, Rachal Childs, and Jerred Childs, born to his ex-wife Carrie Childs. His sweet dog, Gypsy, was a faithful companion, always by his side.
He attended several different schools growing up including Greece Arcadia and Dansville High School, graduating in 1968. A hardworking and proud pipefitter, he often shared stories of his time working at Kodak, the Hess oil refinery in St. Croix, and other locations throughout his career.
Greg cherished time with his family, especially during summer vacations. He found joy in photography, music, and concerts, with The Rolling Stones being a lifelong favorite. He loved being on the water, particularly boating on Sodus Bay, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, the simplicity of watching old Westerns, and spending quiet moments in nature. His faith was important to him, and he found comfort in attending church. Greg was also a lifelong, loyal Buffalo Bills fan, long before they were popular. Gregory had a natural gift for bringing joy to those around him, whether by sharing a joke, painting rocks with his daughter to brighten the days of cancer patients, or warmly greeting every passerby with a friendly hello. He will be remembered for his storytelling, warm heart, love of the outdoors, and sense of humor. He loved life and adventure and always sought to bring a smile to those around him. Gregory was dearly loved and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
His family extends heartfelt thanks to the nurses and doctors at Strong Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care during his courageous battle with cancer over the past four months; to his loving neighbors, Basil and Ann Marie, for their unwavering support and kindness; and to Grandview Canine Care for the loving care they provided to his sweet Gypsy.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life on Sunday, August 24th, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Geneseo, where Greg was a member for several years.
