Greg's obituary

Gregory Alan Birr, 68, of Columbia Heights, Minn., passed away peacefully with his family at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, January 8, 2024, at M Health Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn.

Greg was born April 21, 1955, in Minneapolis to Albert and LuVerne (Klein) Birr, Sr. On Feb. 22, 1986, he married Lona K. Pantzar at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Roseville, Minn., and they have celebrated nearly 38 years of marriage together.

Music was a huge part of Greg’s life. He was an incredible guitar player and a member of several bands. Greg was a lover of hotrods and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Family members remember him as the most stubborn, fun, kind man, who always got everyone else in trouble. Greg was incredibly proud of his three children and grandchildren.

Loving family members who will forever miss him include his loving and devoted wife, Lona; his children, Lisa (Matt) Carlson and Matt (Samantha); two grandsons, Chase Hardon and Nick Carlson; his siblings, Debbie (Larry) Urbanski, Al “Tiny” (Sandy) Jr., Jeff (Beth), and Doug; his nieces and nephews, Gina (Dave) Zweber and Angie (Alan) Kibler, Adam (Tiffany) and Aaron (Maryse) Birr, Jennifer (Jordan) Birr and Anna (Kalvon) Vasen, Andy and Nicole Birr, and Jessica (Mike) Morrissey and Elizabeth Baumann; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Don and Phyllis Pantzar; two sisters-in-law, Trish (Nick) Baumann and Jodi Birr; and numerous other family members including great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, friends, and his favorite fur babies, Buddy, Smokey, Knox, and Louie.

He was welcomed into heaven with open arms by his son, Christopher; his parents, Albert and LuVerne; and many other family members and friends.
