Gordon's obituary
Gordon Jay Glockner
WOODBURN, OREGON - Gordon "Gordy" Jay Glockner, 99 of Woodburn, Oregon went home to be with our Lord Jesus on May 23rd, 2022 at the Sweet Bye n Bye Adult Foster Home (hospice) in Salem, Oregon.
Gordon was born on April 7th, 1923 in Spokane, Washington to Frederick "Fritz" and Mary "Marie" (Walde) Glockner. Gordon unfortunately lost his father while still just a baby. In adolescence, he attended Garfield and Cleveland High Schools in Seattle, Washington where he graduated the class of 1942 as a Cleveland Eagle. His staunch work ethic and desire to support himself and family during the war years had him delivering newspapers during his entire high school career. During that time, as a natural athlete, he enjoyed softball, running, hiking and helping his stepfather, Howard in his butcher shop. Upon graduation, he was hired by the Boeing Aircraft Company for two years as a riveter until his entry into the US Navy in April of 1944.
Gordon received his boot camp training in Farragut, Idaho. He received radar and ordinance training in Norman, Oklahoma, and eventually went on to support a Carrier Air Service Unit known as "CASU-22" at Quonset Point Naval Air Station in Rhode Island. He was honorably discharged to the US Naval Base in Bremerton, Washington in June of 1946.
Upon leaving military service, Gordon began his lifelong career with Pacific Northwest Bell in Seattle in 1946. He eventually met and married Josephine Louise Endzell in November of 1951 where they began a life together in the South Seattle area off of Beacon Avenue South.
Along with Josephine's son, Albert Fairchild, they had a son Jeffrey in 1955 and another son Gordon in 1957. Together they lived in Seattle for 34 years and shared many wonderful memories of vacations to Idaho, Canada, the Oregon coast, and Josephine's brother's two homes in Kirkland and Brinnon, Washington. In keeping with his work ethic, Gordon continued his career with Pacific Northwest Bell until his retirement in 1984. During his 38 years with "Ma Bell" he earned the reputation for exceptional quality work, top notch solutions, and easy-going friendship. One of his coworkers years after his retirement told me: "You know, your dad was a legend in the phone company in Seattle."
In 1985, Gordon and "Josie" retired to a golf course lifestyle in the Senior Estates of Woodburn, Oregon where both enjoyed golf, travel, casinos, many friends, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Three hole-in-one trophies along with many photo memories stand in display on the bookshelf today!
We will miss you dearly, dad. Although losing your natural father early in life, you rose above it to become a steady, consistent and generous, supportive, loving father with an easy-going sense of humor.
Gordon is survived by his stepson, Albert Lewis Fairchild of Brookings, OR and his sons Jeffrey Howard Glockner of Auburn, WA and Gordon Edward Glockner of Vancouver, WA.
Gordon was preceded in death by his mother, father, stepfather, Howard Bosanko, one brother, Russell Frederick Glockner, and his two sisters Irene Wilhelmina (Glockner) Wheeler and Enicee Mildred (Glockner) Healey.
He is survived by his grandchildren Ricky Fairchild, Sarah Jean (Fairchild) Brown of Springfield, OR, Zachary Freeman Fairchild of North Bend, OR, Nolan Jeffrey Glockner of Auburn, WA. Also surviving Gordon are one niece, Janice Marie (Healey) Lindberg of Yerrington, NV and three nephews including: Gary Alden Glockner of Seattle, WA, Alan Russell Glockner of Summerville, SC and Glen Scott Glockner of Yakima, WA. Last but not least, Gordon is also survived by his two beautiful great-grandchildren Gabriel Joaquin Brown and Elijah Orion Brown of Springfield, OR.
