I am deeply saddened to learn of Mr. Thompson’s passing. The obituary was a beautiful tribute to an extraordinary life. I was especially moved by the story of his and Mrs. Thompson’s budding middle school romance and by the many ways his devotion to family and community shone through — from offering pro bono legal counsel to countless families to helping bring the lights and scoreboard to the field at Recreation Park. I played on that field growing up and never knew about Mr. Thompson’s role in improving it. The anecdote about his love of Italian restaurants and his generosity in offering free legal services was especially sweet and made me smile.

While his obituary shared new details about his remarkable contributions, it came as no surprise to me that Mr. Thompson was such a pillar of his community and a devoted father. Having known Jeff since childhood, I can see how his father’s kindness, integrity, humility, and commitment to service continue to live on in him and his brother.

My heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Thompson, Jeff, Katie, Jordan, and the entire Thompson family during this difficult time.

Love,

Seyma

I always had great smiling conversations with "Gordo" (my own nickname for him) whether it was seeing him downtown during the day when he was headed to clients, or I was headed to mine, or at reunions, big and small, with our high school classes. One thing we always had was a shared empathy for an inability to compete at the high school level in basketball and having to settle for the CYO or Boys Club route. We also shared conversations about the direction of the future of our local area to remain an economically viable area.  We remained very comfortably warm in any contact we had no matter how long it had been since our last communication. I also was very proud and always remineded him that Jackie Kennedy and Jackie Thompson were two people I thought of when I named my first daughter.
So sorry to hear the loss of Gordon.   I am Cheryl Lewis Michael, we are cousins when very young.   Nancy being my Aunt.   Beverly also my  Aunt.   My mother Shirley were sisters with them.   Shirley Ann Travis Lewis.   My condolences

My sincerest condolences to the entire Thompson Family.  Gordon was a true gentleman and wonderful lawyer.  I look back fondly on all the years we "boys" got together to play "TNL" basketball.  Thursday nights were the highlight of the week!
Jacqueline please accept Sue’s and my deepest sympathy and extend our condolences to your family. Gordon’s many accomplishments in his personal and professional life truly epitomize the best of Binghamton. During my tenure as Mayor he was an enthusiastic advocate for major upgrades at Recreation Park’s Little League field.  He was the voice of reason. Often countering neighborhood apprehension with facts and a quick wit. Thankfully through his efforts we were successful. His community involvement was an invaluable asset to the residents of Binghamton and the Southern Tier.

I first met  Gordon (Corky) in 1969 when we became fraternity brothers at SUNY Albany.  We had much in common since we were both from the Southern Tier, loved sports (especially the Yankees) and enjoyed the college life.  A friendship that has lasted more than 55 years was created.  Corky was a great student and his leadership skills were evident in the roles he took on at both the fraternity and university.  Since we were both dating our high school sweethearts we had many double dates over the next three years.  Gordon was a groomsman in Nancy and my wedding in 1972 and we saw Jackie and him from time to time when in the Southern Tier.  We were also able to visit them in Charlottesville while Gordon was in law school at UVA.  Over the decades we have continued to visit in Binghamton or at our home in Dryden.  While these visits may only be once a year, we seemed to pick up conversations where we had left off - generally stories of how both our kids and then grandkids were doing and how our non-work related activities were going.  I will always remember Gordon's Boys and Girls Club stories and his passion for SUNY Binghamton sports.  Gordon's love for his entire family was evident in the description of all the activities and trips throughout the country and around the world that were taken to spend time together.  He was what I consider to be a true friend and both Nancy and I will miss him very much.  Actually, we struggle to reconcile our world with no Gordon.  We want to extend our heartfelt condolences to Jackie and the entire family.    Charlie and Nancy Hart
I’m deeply saddened that Gordon is no longer with us. He will always remain in my thoughts. Gordon was a kind man, a loving husband and father and grandfather.  So very thoughtful to everyone and always took an interest in knowing you. He adored his grandchildren and they adored him as well. I will miss you Gordon❤️‍🩹
I was so very sorry to hear of Gordon’s passing . He was my Friday morning league golf partner and friend. We shared many laughs not only of our golf game but our career experiences also. But inevitably talk would be of family and grandchildren . It brought smiles to us both. There was no better gentleman ,golf partner ,or friend . From the entire Ely park golf league and your friend Chief Kenneth F Stica, retired
