I learned a great deal from Gordon. His support and promotion of women was not able. I never worked so hard as his "deputy" than I did working aside him. He improved my vocabulary as I had to look up some of the words he used.
We went through many hard times with the constant rotation of Board members and those with agendas other than what promoted the achievement of all kids, especially minorities and the poor. In the end, they got the better of us, but the legacy he left was, no doubt, lasting. His leaving was a sad day for Ithaca 's staff and children. Even though I went on to a newly created position as an "outsider" in the Rochester City Schools, I missed working with Gordon. I could not have been ready for the 51 Rochester Schools with a student population of over 2000+ students without his mentorship. I still miss him. Thank you for the opportunity to express my thoughts. I really never had the chance to tell this to Gordon because my leaving Ithaca and my family who lived there was so traumatic. I'm glad that he had time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He worked hard all of his career and deserved more family time with those he dearly loved.

Beth, Geoff and Nikki,
I was going thru bookcase today and found “Wild Tulips”! So sorry to find Gordon passed away in December ! Memories have flooded my mind about Old Trolley Way in Rowayton! Then I think about dog, Eric, furniture from Japan, flute and fun times we had! Never forget NYE going to movie 9 to 5 where you and I embarrassed our hubbies by laughing so loud during the show🤭
Deepest sympathies to your family! Love and hugs!

Gordon and Beth were our next door neighbors in Danbury, CT and getting to know them was a joy. We shared a meal or went to a movie fairly often. Mostly, I just loved sharing a glass of wine or tea on either deck or around the kitchen table. They were always interested in our daughters' lives, and I was very sad when they moved away. We are especially sad to hear of Gordon's passing and extend to Beth and all the family our deepest sympathy. Jim and Penny Grecni

I have many stories but right now, I share your grief. He was special in so many ways.

I was shocked to see that Gordon had passed. He was my mentor and role model. I worked many hours a week as his Deputy Superintendent in Ithaca. There are no words to express what I learned from him and how great he was to work with and for.
My condolences to Beth, Geoff and Nikki whom I knew.

Uncle Gordon was ever supportive of all the nieces and nephews. When I was at college in the summer near Beth and Gordon, they not only hosted me for a weekend of fun in between my studies, they then drove up to my graduation ceremony. Then, they proceeded to come to both my wedding in Michigan as well as the ceremony in Italy. Always ready for dancing, fun and family times, we all looked forward to seeing Aunt Beth and Uncle Gordon. He will be sorely missed.

Bruno Family - There is a giant Gordon-sized hole in the world now. When my mom shared the news, the FIRST thing I thought was, "Oh, wow, he's making a ruckus up there with his pots and pans!" (I have never before and never since experienced anything like a Gordon Bruno wake-up call!!!)Chuckie Gallo was likely waiting for him with open arms and the two of them are sharing stories and having a good laugh.Hugs to you all.Lisa Gallo Paterson
