Gloria's obituary

Gloria Dean Johnson Scott was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, servant, caregiver, sister, friend, and faithful Jehovah’s Witness. She was born November 23,1949 to Will and Ruby Johnson who preceded her in death. Gloria passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2022.

Gloria grew up in Atlanta, Georgia in a very loving and caring family among her brothers and sisters. There were eight siblings in all and three of them preceded her in death: Christine Vaughn, William Lee Johnson, and Wilbert Lee Johnson and her son-in-law Nugean Williams. She was easy-going, a peacemaker and caregiver. She was affectionately known as “Glo” which was so befitting because of the glow around her as she brought sunshine into the life of others.

Gloria was active as a child and loved being outside. Making playhouses, playing ring games, Hide and Seek were just a few of the things she enjoyed.

Growing up in the Summerhill Community of Atlanta, she attended E. P. Johnson Elementary School and graduated from Price High School in 1967. She was active at school, running track and had a real love for basketball. Immediately after high school, she went to school to be a certified Medical Assistant and spent more than 30 years in this profession before retiring.

It was evident that her profession would be in a field that allowed her to care for others. As a child she cared for her diabetic aunt and for anybody who was sick. She absolutely loved her work and believed it was a gift that she could give to others by helping them through various illnesses and physical hardships. Apart from work, she would volunteer her time to help family and friends.

After completing high school, the family moved to East Atlanta and there she met her future husband, Harold Scott. They married June 20,1971 and were married 51 years. To this union, there are two beautiful daughters, four grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Gloria was a devoted wife, a caring mother and grandmother. She was a phenomenal woman always caring for her family and those around her. She was the heartbeat of her family, always putting them and others first. You could always find Gloria knitting a blanket or a beautiful item for family and friends. She loved to knit. Every family member has something she made especially for them. Every new baby in the family got a blanket, or other item made from her handy works. That was her welcome gift and her way of showing unspoken love.

Just as important, she was a faithful Jehovah’s Witness. Gloria was baptized July 5, 1997. She attended her meetings and worked to spread God’s word until her illness.

Gloria leaves to celebrate her life the following: her husband of 51 years, Harold Scott; her two daughter Gloria Williams (Chan) and Tiffany Lucas (Tip): One son-in law, Jerry Lucas (Gusta); Two granddaughters Ke’erra Williams and Amaya Lucas; Two grandsons, Quintavious Williams and Bejamin Lucas: One great granddaughter, Winter Williams; Two sisters, Ernestine Gibson and Katie Brown; Two brothers, Willie Lee Johnson and Joseph Johnson; A friend as close as a sister, Charcella Green; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
