Glenna's obituary
Glenna Dawn Parker-Waites, beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, passed from colon cancer on October 18th, 2022, at the Riverstone Hospice House, at the age of 53. She courageously fought her cancer diagnosis on her own terms with her family's immense support and respect.
She was born in Roundup, Montana at the Roundup Memorial Hospital on April 13, 1969, to her parents LaDonna (Rose) Gates and her biological father Calvin Earnest Thayer (deceased as of March 22, 1998). Glenna's formative years were spent in the Roundup schools, and she graduated in 1987. She participated in many extracurricular activities, excelled as a student, and made many lifelong friends.
Glenna was a loving, gregarious and fiercely passionate soul who flourished in life and business with a mission for social justice, equality, the environment and education. She was a visionary in the cryptocurrency space, and wanted to unlock individual’s financial autonomy through FinTech ideas. She was an advocate for personal and the environment’s health through alternative healing practices, yoga, spirituality, non-traditional education practices, and sustainable food and water solutions. For years, she was active in local politics in California and led community service initiatives in her beloved Baja community in Mexico. Her proudest moment was her work as founder and editor of San Diego Loves Green, working to create local sustainable communities. Her thirst for knowledge was never quenched as a lifelong student in the topics of history, symbology and political theory. She was driven by bringing light to these fields to others - most notably, she was a visiting professor at San Diego State University (SDSU) teaching a course on the “Introduction to Renewable Energy.”
Her greatest love in life was being a mother to her three children: Sierra Parker (29), Dylan Waites (17) and Dracen Waites (15). She encouraged and supported each of them to develop into the special souls she saw in them.
Her smile and laughter were infectious and will be remembered in every rising sun.
While there is not a formal funeral or ceremony, she asked for her three children to paddle out in the ocean together and spread her ashes.
Left to grieve her passing is her mother Ladonna Gates and her husband Edward, daughter Sierra Parker, sons Dylan and Dracen Waites, siblings: Kerrie Seaman and her daughter Lea, Amanda Thayer, Karlee Thayer, step sisters Diane Gates, Julia Jawad, step brother Mark Gates, her aunt and uncle, Ken and Mary Rose, and numerous other family members and friends! Our family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to the many families and friends for the outpouring of love we have received in the past few weeks.
