Glenn Leroy Loomis went into the arms of Jesus on November 1st at his daughter’s home surrounded by family after a short illness.
Glenn was born at home in Donnelly, Idaho, on May 11, 1921. He attended school in Roseberry and Donnelly where he graduated high school. He worked on the family farm after graduation, but went to radio school in Chicago and joined the army in 1944. He served as a radio repairman and communications chief in Korea during WWII. He was discharged in 1946 to help on the family farm.
After the service, Glenn continued to work as a farmer/rancher during the planting season and at a radio shop in Boise in the winter. He met and married the love of his life, Doris Sundquist, in 1950. They had two daughters, Glenda, born in 1951 and Gloria, in 1954. Glenn and Doris celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on October 29th beside his hospital bed.
Glenn spent his life on the land where he was born, ranching and farming about 1000 acres of land. He also became licensed as a contractor, electrician, plumber, realtor, and real estate broker when the family began to subdivide their land on Lake Cascade. He built many homes on the lake and his wife often built rock fireplaces in these cabins. Glenn received a Valley county award for environmentally sound practices in farming for keeping fertilizer and runoff out of the lake. In addition, he served on the planning and zoning board and irrigation board for many years. He stayed active on the farm late into his 80’s. Glenn and Doris did not leave Valley Co. until 2016 when they moved to Boise to be near their daughter. He was residing in a Brightstar assisted living home at the time of his death.
In the 1960’s, Glenn and Doris built DayStar, a Bible camp and conference center on Cascade Lake. This ministry had profound impact on the lives of many youth from Idaho to Oregon and to California. Glenn and Doris were charter members of the Donnelly Bible Church where Glenn served on the church board for over 30 years.
Glenn is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Viola Loomis; his brother, Donald (Sybil) Loomis and sister, Ruth (Bert) Higgins; and his daughter, Glenda Loomis. He is survived by his wife, Doris; daughter, Gloria (John) Beery; granddaughter Hannah (Casey) McDonald; grandson Nathan Beery, and 3 great grandsons, Jacob, Jack and Henry along with multiple nieces and nephews.
Glenn was a kind, gracious, loving, gentle, and soft-spoken man. He could fix almost anything, often in very creative ways. He didn’t have many words to say, but when he did they had meaning. He was known for his dry humor that would crack you up by a one-liner. He was a good husband, father, and friend. He will be missed, but we rejoice that he gets to leave his 99 year old body behind and join his daughter in heaven, praising God in his final eternal home.
A graveside service was held at Holmes Cemetery, Donnelly November 5, 2020 and a memorial service will be held at Alden Waggoner Funeral Chapel on October 3rd, 2021 at 3 pm.
