Glenn Alan Cook
Glenn Alan Cook, born January 2, 1949, in Granite City, Illinois, passed away on December 5, 2025. He was a beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, husband, veteran, and public servant whose quiet strength, steady leadership, and love of community left a lasting mark on all who knew him.
Glenn was raised in Sullivan, Missouri, and graduated from Sullivan High School in 1967. In September 1968, he proudly joined the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He spent most of his service stationed in Germany, where he served as a medic, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Glenn was honorably discharged in September 1971, and his service to his country remained a point of pride throughout his life.
He was the son of the late Carol J. Dace (née Albert) and the late Earl C. Cook. Glenn was also preceded in death by his step-father, Cyrus J. Dace, by whom he was lovingly raised alongside his mother. Glenn was raised with strong values of service, responsibility, and integrity—qualities that guided him throughout his life.
Glenn was united in marriage to his wife, Brenda Cook, who survives him. Together they shared many years of companionship and love.
Deeply committed to his hometown, Glenn served as Mayor of Sullivan from April 1987 until June 1990. During his administration, he worked closely with the Sullivan Industrial Development Authority and was instrumental in bringing Aerofil Technology to the community. Under his leadership, the City of Sullivan received grant funding for a new airport, and on August 24, 1989, broke ground for what became the Sullivan Regional Airport—a lasting contribution to the city’s growth and infrastructure.
In his younger years, Glenn enjoyed participating in basketball and softball leagues, as well as hunting and fishing. Over time, his interests turned to golf, a pastime he greatly enjoyed. He also found joy in music and fellowship and enjoyed singing in his church choir.
Glenn is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Merseal and husband Todd of St. Clair, Missouri; and his grandchildren, Anna Cohen and husband Noah of Warrensburg, Missouri, and Chloe Merseal and Claire Merseal of St. Clair, Missouri, who were a great source of pride and joy in his life.
He is also survived by his siblings: Stephanie Light and husband Herman of Sullivan, Missouri; Marty Cook of Ballwin, Missouri; Earl “Bing” Cook of Leasburg, Missouri; Carole Alexander and husband Curt of Bourbon, Missouri; and Deanna Zelch and husband Steve of Sullivan, Missouri; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on January 25th from 12:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Sullivan Community Center. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. on May 6, 2026, at Buffalo Cemetery.
Glenn will be remembered for his steady character, servant leadership, love of family, and dedication to his community and country. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the city he served, and the family who loved him.
