Glenda's obituary

Glenda Lea Jones (Drake)

Born: September 1, 1955 -  DoD: September 24, 2023.

In loving Memory of a true Earth Angel....

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Glenda Lea Jones (Drake)...beloved daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, and friend...who departed from our world to be with her Lord and Savior in the early afternoon on Sunday, September 24, 2023....following a brief and unexpected illness.

Glenda was born Chung Yung Sun in Seoul, South Korea during the latter stages of the Korean War, and was thereafter adopted by U.S.Army Sargent William C. Jones....who rescued her from out of the D-Zone....and his wife, Laura Nadine, during his tour of duty there.

Glenda is preceded in death by her parents as well as a stepfather, William Wynne, and a brother, Michael Jones.

Glenda is survived by her lovely and devoted daughters Stephanie Goeke (Kevin Newell), and Jennifer Sermons; her beautiful grandchildren Scarlett, Mariah, Eilanna, Gabrielle, and Malakai; her sisters...Traci, Pamela, and Keri-Lynn; a brother, Joseph; her nephews Matthew, Aaron, Brent, Kyle and a niece, Christina.

In her youth, among her many talents and accomplishments, Glenda studied piano...in which she achieved clàssical concert status...and was also a gifted vocalist (second soprano, alto, contralto, contra-alto...lead and backing vocals), and she was active in both her school choirs, as well as her church choir (formed a trio with her mom and sister, Keri-Lynn), and performed with various rock bands about town (with her sister in tow).

Glenda also competed in a local beauty/scholarship pageant which was a qualifying precursor to winning the State title to compete in the nationally televised America's Junior Miss pageant (CBS-TV). For her talent portion, Glenda sang "To Sir, With Love", and received a standing ovation. She was a finalist within the top five, and then...following the poise and appearance/interview question portion, she earned her placement as second runner-up.

Glenda was a poetic lyricist and author who also possessed a variety of professional skill sets in the areas of music, digital marketing, retail, executive assistance, leadership, sales, training, and teaching, among her fields of endeavor.

In sports...Glenda enjoyed softball, baseball, basketball, touch-football, soccer and volleyball. She was also an avid Crimson Tide and Jaguar fan.

For recreation and leisure...Glenda enjoyed going to the beach at Gulf Shores, AL...where she could be found gathering starfish to show and share with her siblings. She would later gather family and friends to play games and catch a show (or perform in one) at The Hangout. She also enjoyed reading, studying, swimming, fishing (a lot!), canoeing, kayaking, hunting, hiking, needlepoint, macramé, gardening, cooking, and dancing.

In lieu of flowers, the Family asks that contributions be made to any charity or cause that supports the causes that were near and dear to Glenda's heart and Soul...such as any institute and organization that supports cancer research and cures, Earth and environmental conservation and care, animal shelters, music, music therapy, music scholarship programs, The Wounded Warrior Project, and the Jr. ROTC and ROTC Programs all across The United States of America; especially, the Jr.ROTC and ROTC "Lady Cadet" Scholarship Program...a certified precursor/prerequisite into entry level U.S.Military Service for young women of high school age once they complete their Diploma requirements with a 3.0 GPA or higher....a program that Glenda researched, drafted, created and implemented and put into self-practice while pursuing her high school education at John S Shaw in Mobile, Alabama.

A celebration of Glenda's Life with memorial service is being planned for a future date. At that time, Family and Friends are welcome and invited to come together to remember and celebrate Glenda's rich, diverse and free-Spirited Life and Legacy.

May Glenda's loving, endearing and courageous heart and Spirit live on forever in the hearts, minds and memories of everyone who had the rare privilege to meet, know, love and cherish her. May her Eternal Soul rest in God's Eternal Peace.

The Family of Glenda Lea Jones (Drake) appreciates your love, support, condolences, prayers, respect and privacy during this difficult time.
