Glenda's obituary

Glenda Jenette Glenn was a caring daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Glenda was always a friendly face and never seem to meet a stranger. She left this world after a brief illness on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at the age of 73.

Glenda was born to William Lloyd and Muriel Whinery on July 12, 1950. As a teenager she met the love of her life but didn’t realize until she was in High School in Sapulpa. Glenda married her forever love, Emery “Butch” Glenn on September 21, 1968 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. After Glenda and Butch married, they moved to Oklahoma City for about 6 months to finish a job and return to Sapulpa to spend the rest of their lives in the town they grew up in to raise a family.

On October 2, 1971, Butch and Glenda welcomed into this world their only child Misty Michelle Glenn. Glenda was very active with Misty’s extra-curricular activities being the stage mom to fix costumes for dance recitals and contest. She also was very active with Misty’s other activities which included Baton Twirling, Sapulpa Marching Band and Sapulpa Color Guard. Glenda is still known as

“Mom” for many of the neighborhood kids she watched over.

Most people remember Glenda at the desk at the Sapulpa Herald. Glenda worked at Sapulpa Herald over 10 years. After leaving Sapulpa Herald, she became an Accounting associate at DTAG (Dollar Thrifty Auto Group) in Tulsa, before finally retiring early due to health issues.

In the early years of her life, Glenda was a member of the Odd Fellow and Rebekah and Theta Roe fraternities. Glenda was also a high ranking official of the Pythian Sisters of Oklahoma. She traveled meeting others and doing community work in those areas. She was also an active member of the Creek County Quilters until they disbanded in early 1990’s.

Glenda is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Emery “Butch” Glenn, Her parents William Lloyd “Pops” Whinery and Muriel Whinery of Sapulpa, Her brothers Bill Whinery, Phil Whinery, Ronald Whinery and Mike “Dawg” Whinery and her Twin Sister Linda Newton. She was also preceded in death by her Great-grandson Taylor Webb, Jr, and her nephews Jim Whinery, Billy Whinery and her niece Andrea Flowers Steeples.

Glenda is survived by her only child Misty Glenn of Sapulpa. Her grandchildren Darrington and Taylor Norris of Tulsa, Brianna Glenn and Josh Hall of Sapulpa, Morganne Glenn of Sapulpa and Meaghanne and Taylor Webb of Sapulpa. Her great-grandchildren Bryliegh, Alaska, Teaghan, Nori, Jonathan, Toby, Freya, Jasper, Oklynn and Ronnie Arlo. And her sisters Sandra Kay Dickens of Bixby and Anna Jo Harvey of Sand Springs and her multitude of nieces and nephews.

At this time, no public services are planned.
