Glen's obituary

Glen was a loving father to his two children, Kendra (Michael) and son Nick and was a special "Papaw" to Miles and Kade. He is also survived by his siblings Barbara Carpenter (Rod) and step sister Jaine Bischel, wife/ex Shelley Sears, nephews Brian (Diane) and Jason Rebuck, cousins Linda(Greg) Abel & Ann(Mike) Irvin.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Gwen Winegarden & Glen Sears, his stepfather Bill Winegarden, stepmother Velma Sears, and his sister, Cathy Rebuck and step brother, Tom Mason.

Glen was born in Richmond, California to Glen and Gwendolyn Sears. He attended DeAnza High School in Richmond where he developed his love for sports. Glen played football at DeAnza, Contra Costa Jr. College & Cornell University in Iowa, his stepdad’s alma mater. He worked for Safeway while going to college, and worked in the produce “field” for over 25 years.

Glen and his family lived for years in Castro Valley where he was devoted to family, friends, and coaching. Glen was a former Little League President, coach, and board member for many years. He touched the lives of many on and off the baseball fields of Castro Valley through his years of coaching Little League and the CVHS Varsity team. If you were looking for Glen, odds are you would find him working on the Proctor or CVHS baseball “fields” in town. He also loved gardening, vacuuming, and was a member of the Crow Canyon Masonic Lodge in Castro Valley.

Glen gave so much to his family and community and will be missed dearly by all. To this world Glen brought a presence that will never be forgotten. His memory will live on through his family and friends, forever in our hearts.

A Celebration of Life will be held on his birthday, Saturday, July 15 at 11:00 at Proctor Elementary School in Castro Valley on the baseball “field”. Past players and coaches are encouraged to come dressed in their baseball gear for a pickup game following the service.
