Glen's obituary

Glen Alan Bayne, age 76, of Yuma, Arizona passed away on April 2nd, 2026.

Glen was born on March 20, 1950 in Melfort, Saskatchewan to Alan and Maudie Bayne. He grew up in Beatty alongside his sisters, Kathy and Elaine. Glen attended the Beatty School in his younger years, and then he went on to attend high school in Melfort.  Growing up in a small town, he enjoyed playing hockey and baseball and was also a Boy Scout for a few years. The Bayne kids spent most of their childhood in and around the Beatty rink. Many memories were made there.

Glen quit school at the age of 16 to start working with his dad hauling gravel, even though he didn’t have a license to do so at first! He went on to have various jobs throughout his life, like working in a nickel mine in Thompson, Manitoba, helping to build the damn in Nipawin, SK, working for P&R Teleservices alongside both of his parents, owning/operating the Husky Bulk Station in Melfort, but he always went back to his “trucking” roots.Glen kept on trucking until retiring at 70, proudly telling everyone he met that he had driven more than six million miles across Canada and the United States.

Outside of work, he enjoyed riding his various Harley Davidson motorcycles, playing cribbage, and sharing stories from his trucking days. Friends and family will remember him for his sense of humor, unabashed opinions that he shared, and his generosity. It was often said that his “bark was worse than his bite”, and he had a heart of gold underneath that gruff exterior.

Glen was blessed with three daughters, Angela (1970), Alisa (1972) and Andrea (1975), and he and his first wife, Florence, raised their girls in Melfort. The girls were taught to have a strong work ethic by helping to polish dad’s semis, do yard work on the acreage and to help at home while he was often away on the road trucking. Glen had a passion for “fancy” Peterbilts, Ford trucks and Harley Davidsons, but his true pride and joy were his three daughters and later his six grandchildren and one great grandson.

In 2009, Glen married Jen, and they shared many wonderful years together. They lived in Minot and Fargo while they were both still working, but then decided to retire to Yuma, Arizona in 2023. They were able to enjoy some quality time together, but they were both battling cancer in the later years. Glen made a lasting impact through his work at the Elks and the time spent dedicated to their senior living community. He also enjoyed his daily “Happy Hour” with his many friends that he made while living in Yuma.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Jen, along with his daughters, Angela Nordstrom (Bob) of Prince Albert, SK, Alisa Dorn (Rick) of St. Albert, AB, Andrea Gaillard (Maurice) of Melfort, SK, sister, Kathy Payne (Royce) of Moose Jaw, SK, and brother-in-law Terry Northcott of Sturgeon County, AB. He also leaves to mourn his grandchildren, Morgan, Simon, Devon (Emma), Kyla, Josie, and Owen, and one great-grandson, Beau. He was affectionately known as “Popo” by all his grandchildren, and they will especially miss his fondness for teasing them and taking them for rides on his motorcycles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alan and Maudie, his sister, Elaine Northcott, his brother in law, Don Korgel, his sister in law, Jane Korgel, and his stepdaughter, Shallah Bunyard.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 12th at the Elks Lodge beginning at 1pm. All are welcome to attend. There will also be a Celebration of Life held at a separate time in Melfort, Saskatchewan.
