Gladys's obituary

Gladys Jean Todd passed away on Saturday, May 7th 2022 in Detroit Michigan. Gladys was 80 years old, born on June 9th 1941 in Amory, Mississippi to Elias Nichols & Sallie Mae Thompson. Gladys was the fifth of six children. At a very young age Gladys & her family moved from Mississippi to Michigan where her life began to take on significant shape. Gladys attended the local public schools there in Detroit  & she thrived as an outstanding student. Gladys went on to Cass Technical High School & graduated as one of the top in her class. All the while she accumulated lifelong friendships with classmates & others that later became relative to her in faith. Gladys began dating Nathaniel Todd who was associated with Jehovah's witnesses at the time. As he progressed in the truth, Gladys did as well. Eventually, both were married & baptized, & making spiritual progress. Gladys was baptized on June 6th 1964, having an overwhelming love for Jehovah and his organization. After giving birth to her only daughter,  Kimberly Vernita Todd, in 1963, Gladys went on to have success in her spiritual & secular work, as well as a happy family life, until the death of her husband Nathaniel. This proved to be the most dramatic time in her life, as it affected Gladys & Kim greatly. The death of her husband drove her even closer to her heavenly Father & it reinforced her bond with her daughter Kim. Gladys was a skilled seamstress, producing many fashionable garments. Gladys loved people; her family, her neighbors, co-workers, & especially her spiritual brothers & sisters in Jehovah's organization. This love enabled her to preach, instill, & aid those ones, with a heartfelt desire to learn about Jehovah, into the truth.  Gladys lived a faithful life, even by aiding her own daughter into the truth. Together the two clinged on to each other until Kim's death in 2021. Overall, Gladys accomplished a great amount of success both, secularly & in her ministry, as well as in her family life. Gladys frequently held gatherings at her home where she expressed their hospitality to many friends and family. She most enjoyed playing cards with friends, for she was an avid BidWhist player. Gladys was preceded in death by her late husband Nathaniel Todd and her only daughter Kimberly Todd. Also preceding her in death are her five other siblings: Betty Brown, Evelyn Nichols, Spencer Nichols, Lawyer Nichols, and Willie Mae Foster along with their parents Sallie Mae Thompson and Elias Nichols. Surviving Gladys are a host of nieces nephews cousins and other family members along with a host of friends whom she all loved and all who loved her as well.
