Gladys's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gladys Rogers. Born on March 20, 1953, Gladys departed this world on September 18, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, generosity and servitude.

Remembered by all for her witty, joyful, playful, and sassy personality, Gladys lived a life infused with service, whether it was ministering to the youth, cooking, singing, or volunteering at numerous nursing facilities. A stalwart attendee of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, her faith was a cornerstone of her living. She particularly enjoyed performances by the men's choir and children's praise dance team.

Gladys was a well-read woman with her favorite book being The Bible. Her taste in music was classic and timeless, with favorites including Aretha Franklin, Donnie McClurkin, Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight. She also enjoyed indulging in games of Spades and dominoes and had a fondness for the color purple.

After graduating with her B.A. in Health Administration from the University of Delaware, Newark, DE in 1983, Gladys made an indelible impact on her community. In 1988, she married the love of her life, Alfred Rogers. Together, they created a beautiful family and a life filled with joyous memories.

Gladys is survived by her devoted husband, Alfred Rogers; her adoring children, Sharonda Rogers, Brian Rogers, Jesse Rogers, Ashlie Booker, and Edris Rogers; her beloved grandchildren, A’shauna Rogers, Azadeia Lewis, Cameron Harris, Brian Rogers, Jr., Nyeomi Leeper, and Ebony Goins. She was predeceased by her son, Corey Rogers, and her loving parents, Glenda and Delbert Adams.

Gladys's loss will be deeply felt by a host of family, friends, colleagues, and students who benefitted from her generous spirit. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate her life and the love she shared with everyone she encountered. She will be eternally missed and lovingly remembered.
