Gladys's obituary

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Ms. Gladys Parks, a cherished matriarch and pillar of faith in her community, who departed this life on December 21, 2023. Born on February 19, 1948, she lived a life rich in love, service, and spiritual devotion.

Gladys will be deeply missed by a family that was her greatest joy and accomplishment. She is survived by her loving children, Jacqueline Parks, Terrell Parks, and Tony Parks, her doting grandchildren, Darius Parks, Marquita Parks, Darron Parks, Emani Blake, Ebony Parks, Xavier Parks, and Brittany Parks. Great-grandchildren, Meah Wingfield, Devin Parks, Davien Parks, Jeanelle Parks, Darwyn Parks, Dylan Parks, and Declan Parks, as well as remaining siblings, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Her legacy continues through them all.

Gladys moved from her birth place of LaGrange, NC to Washington D.C. in 1967. In 1986, she started a substantial career at The National Parks Service, where she devoted her working years to service and stewardship. She retired in 2003, and spent her days helping to raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gladys was a woman of warmth, love, and generosity. Her favorite music, gospel, resonated with her faith. The notes and lyrics of the gospel were mirrored in her life as she served her church community through volunteering and ushering. She found joy in her favorite TV show, 'Good Times', and loved the stimulation of a good Crossword Puzzle.

Her passion for her faith was evident in her love for studying the word of God. The richness of her favorite color, purple, reflected her vibrant and heartfelt personality. She was selfless, often doing special deeds for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which will forever be treasured memories.

She often shared with others about the goodness of the Lord, and her biggest lessons were rooted in love and faith. Her greatest accomplishment and legacy - her family - remains as testimony to her enduring love, wisdom, and influence.

Remembering Gladys Parks, we are reminded of a life lived fully, with a heart filled with endless generosity and warmth. Her family, friends, the church and the community will be left with a void, but her spirit and lessons continue to live on in each person she touched. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
