Gladys's obituary

Gladys (Jensen) Hines, born July 17, 1941, passed away on November 1, 2024. A giving, kind, humorous, and generous woman, her legacy of kindness and generosity will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Her greatest achievement in life was her family, and the love she had for them was evident in every aspect of her life.

She graduated from Fenger Academy High School, Chicago, IL in 1960 and went on to build a fulfilling career. She held roles at White Hen Pantry, later becoming an owner, and then worked at Le Gourmet Chef. Despite her various professional pursuits, her favorite job was always being a mother and grandmother.

Gladys was preceded in death by her mother, Cora Jane (Scobey) Johnston and her brothers, Micky (Judy) Jensen of LaGrange, IL, and Tom (Mary) Jensen of Steger, IL. She is survived by her son Bob Hines (LeeAnne) of Portland, OR, daughter Janie Bell (Bryan) of Seffner, FL, her brother Jack Jensen (Mary) of Joliet, IL, and cherished by her grandchildren Sam Bell, Lauren Crawford-Hines (Justin), Katie Bell, and step-granchildren JJ Miller (Abby), and Annie Miller.  Beloved aunt of many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gladys enjoyed a cup of coffee in the morning and was an avid fan of anything on the Cooking Channel. She was also a loyal supporter of Da Bears and the Cubbies. Her favorite pastime was cooking, a passion she inherited from watching countless cooking shows, and she cherished her vacations to Hawaii.  She loved roller coasters, as she visited Riverview often.

Gladys taught those around her that hard work and commitment are the keys to success and happiness. Her love, laughter, and kind spirit will be missed deeply by all who have been touched by her spirit.

We invite you to share your memories and condolences for Gladys who will forever live in our hearts. The lessons she shared and the love she gave will never be forgotten. She has left us with a legacy to cherish, and her memory will always be a part of us.
