Giovanni's obituary
Today we gather to remember and celebrate the lite of my father Giovanni Fiorenza. He was the pillar of our family and cherished by all who knew him. Our dad was a devoted husband, father, Nono, uncle and friend. He was born in the small town of Corleone, Sicily. He was enlisted in the army for a short time, He enjoyed riding horses during his younger years and oftentimes when he would watch movies about horses he would make a comment “thats a nice horse!" Around the age of 30 he came to America to join his parents and siblings, where he met my mother and eventually had a family. He retired from NYCHA after working there for over 25 years. My father was the type of man who if you gave him a hawk and trowel and a bucket of mud, he could build you a new home. My father had many skills and did many great things around the house but the greatest thing he did was being a father to his four children. He was loved by all and to many was their favorite uncle. He loved to garden and make pizza and shop from Arthur avenue. My father was the type of man that if you were around him, you would have a great Giovanni Fiorenza story. My father was very generous and always helped others and often would give sound advice to people. He was a funny man with a great sense of humor.
He was very resilient and strong even when he fell ill. He never gave up even when life didn't stop bringing him down with one thing after another. He kept going for us and his grandchildren. He would be greatly missed by everyone but never forgotten because of the lasting footprint he left in people’s hearts.
