Ginger's obituary
There are times when someone comes along who makes our lives better and more enjoyable than we would have believed. One such someone was Ginger. For more than six years she was best friend, companion, and a joy to have in our lives. She never knew a stranger. She was always willing to approach anyone, especially children, just for a little attention and a rub on the head. She shall be loved, missed and cried over.
Ginger's Biography
While walking to a nearby grocery store, a car pulled up, stopped for a moment and drove off, whereby I saw that Ginger was left there in the street, abandoned. She came to me and placed her front paws on my leg looking for a pat on the head, much like she would go up to anyone in our community. I said "Hello, Little One," gave her a pat and continued on to the store. As I continued Ginger started to follow, that's when I realized she would do so as long as I didn't cause her to go away. So, I turned around and headed back home. She followed me all the way back to the house. As soon as I opened the door she walked in as if she'd always lived there. She went up to my wife, licked her foot and placed her paws on my wife's leg. At that moment Ginger had found a home. We took her in and she became a joyful best friend and companion. Many called her a "Velcro Dog" because if you see me you'd see Ginger nearby. She loved to lay on the blankets I placed around and would never leave my side whether I was working at my computer, out by the garden in the early summer mornings, or sitting in the shade of the maple tree in the compound. She was there when my wife passed away, she was my comfort and the reason I had been able to move on.
My Guardian Angel
A few times in my life I felt like a guardian angel was preparing me for upcoming events. Ginger was such a preparation. She came into my life as my wife was ailing and was there providing comfort, a reason to care and move on to another day. The need to care for someone or a pet can be a tremendous reason to not isolate and a very good reason to go about day-to-day activities.
It’s Quieter Now
It’s quieter now, at least it seems that way.
I don’t hear the patter on wooden floors anymore,
A sound that let me know when she’s on her way.
She’d come along then lie down at my side, never more,
I’d hear a sigh, then there she’d lay.
Her beautiful red hair shined whenever she was in sunlight.
Those reddish-brown eyes that greeted me every morning.
She’s gone now; I have need to make it right.
But how right does it need to be, for her I’m still yearning.
Whenever we’d go out, she always took the lead,
She’d look to me for permission which was always there.
Her squeaks showed me she’s ready to play or misdeed,
She’s gone now, but for her I still care.
Whenever I’d move, I'd catch myself looking around,
Being certain she wouldn’t be hurt as I moved about.
Sudden moves caused her to jump, then to pout,
I’d let her know I’d never admonish nor to shout.
It’s quieter now, at least it seems that way.
