Gilbert's obituary

Gilbert M. Echelman M.D. (93) passed away on August 25, 2023. Beloved husband of 44 years to Elizabeth; sons Todd and Philip (Leah), daughter Janet (David), nine grandchildren, niece Susan, nephews Richard and Robert, and cousins. He was predeceased by parents Samuel and Anna, brother Jules, and sons David and Michael. Gil served on the USCGC Yakutat during the Korean war, graduated from NYU College of Medicine (1953), and devoted his life to serving the community as an endocrinologist in Tampa for 40 years. Gil was a former JCC board member, taught at USF Medical School, and was a Fellow of both the American College of Chest Physicians and American College of Endocrinology. He spent 50 years as a passionate and inventive orange-grower in central Florida, pioneering the use of micro-jets and tree bags, was an avid sailor, and loved baking bread and spending time with family. Details for a celebration of life will follow.
