Gigu's obituary

Gigu Mathew Zachariah, born on September 26th, 1974, to the late K.M. Zachariah and Lizy Zachariah at Kerala, India, passed away aged 50 while working at his home office on April 30th, 2025, in Garland, TX.

During Gigu’s early years, he grew up as an only child with his mother, as his father passed away when Gigu was only four years old. Despite growing up without a father figure and no other siblings, Gigu was very ambitious, driven by the thirst to succeed, and never lost hope.

Following his graduation in Kerala, India, his ambitions led him to move to Europe, specifically, Latvia, where he pursued a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science at Riga Technical University and served as Network Administrator and Webmaster during his time there. After his undergraduate education, he returned to India to work as a Technical Network Engineer at HCL.

After a strong passion for Computer Networking, he moved back to Europe, specifically Sweden, and attended KTH Royal Institute of Technology. There, he studied for a Master’s in Internetworking Technology and also pursued a Master’s Thesis in the Open Access Network (OAN). During his Master’s, he started several companies, which gave him a strong desire for entrepreneurship, so he did further education at Stanford University in Global Entrepreneur Leadership and was involved in several activities, such as Debate.

On August 17th, 2004, Gigu married Reena in Kottayam, India. Gigu’s professional background got the attention of 3M, where he was offered a work-based visa in the United States. After accepting his offer, he settled in New Jersey, where God blessed them with two children named Joshua and Joel. Gigu had many roles at 3M–firstly as a Software Engineer, Senior Production Systems Engineer, Senior Network and Security Engineer, then Team Lead, Senior Cloud Architect, and finally moved to Cybersecurity to lead Cloud and Network Security Engineering and Operations. From 2005 until his passing, he worked faithfully at 3M and 3M Healthcare (Now Solventum), where all his colleagues loved him.

He moved with his family to Texas in 2013, where he attended the New Testament Church in Dallas. He was known for his selfless commitment to the church and fulfilled his duties as an usher.

Gigu was known for his selflessness, soft spokenness, intelligence, and humility, making him beloved by all who knew him. He was very caring and always made sure everyone was happy. Gigu was a family man and would take his family everywhere he went.

Despite his young and unexpected passing, he is now in a better place. He will be missed dearly and always be remembered as a great father, husband, son, mentor, colleague, friend, and spiritual brother. He is survived by his beloved wife Reena, his two sons Joshua and Joel, and his mother Lizy.

Visitation will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Friday, May 16th, 2025, at the New Testament Church, 2545 John West Road, Dallas, TX 75228.

Funeral Service will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday, May 17th, 2025, at New Testament Church, 2545 John West Road, Dallas, TX 75228.

Burial and Final Resting Place will follow the Funeral Service and be held at New Hope Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 500 US-80, Sunnyvale, TX 75182.
