Giancarlo's obituary

Giancarlo DeBerardinis

August 25, 1943 – January 29, 2026

Giancarlo DeBerardinis was born on August 25, 1943, in Silvi Marina, Italy, and passed away on January 29, 2026 in Miami Beach, Florida. He was a devoted father to his three sons—Gianluca, Christian, and Adrian and the loving husband of the late Sharon De Berardinis.  Giancarlo was survived by his three sons and his loving partner Raminta Nenortas, daughters-in-laws; Petra & Hillary, and his beautiful and bright grandchildren Sebastian & Oliver, Celeste & Olimpia. Family was always his greatest priority and pride. One of his most remembered sayings was “Dimmi con chi vai, e ti dirò chi sei”, which translates to “Tell me who you surround yourself with, and that will tell me who you are.” (Italian Proverb).

Giancarlo was an effortlessly positive man who lived each day by his simple motto: “It’s a new day—let’s go for it.” He was endlessly encouraging, supportive, and forgiving, and he had a rare ability to connect with people from all walks of life. His optimism and kindness touched countless lives. His love of family, passion for life, and his mastery of hair artistry showed those around him what truly mattered most.

Born in Italy, Giancarlo immigrated to Canada at the age of twelve and, through hard work, determination and “never give up” attitude, built a successful business career and a lasting legacy. He loved life, its finer and most simple things—fashion, great food, and time spent with family.

He is also survived by his siblings Massimo, Elisa and Luciana. Giancarlo will be remembered for his generosity of spirit, his love of life, and the impact he made simply by being himself.

ABOUT GIANCARLO’ S EARLY LIFE:

He played with a soccer ball on the sand of the Silvi Marina beach, in Abruzzo, where GIANCARLO DE BERARDINIS was born 82 years ago, today considered one of the most prestigious hairdressers/beauticians in the world, so much so that among his clients famous names stand out such as Sofia Loren, Linda Evangelista, Isabella Rossellini, Paula Zahn and Rita Pavona. His is a beautiful story which among the ingredients also has football and Toronto, St. Clair and Stanley Park, our community and Toronto-Italia. He lived in Miami but cannot forget the Silvi Marina beach where he spent his early youth and learned to kick a ball for the first time. And those kicks immediately made him "famous" when back in 1956, then twelve years old, after a long journey with the "emigrant ship", Conte Biancamano, he landed in Halifax together with his mother and then joined his father and brother in Toronto. And in Toronto, with his first school, the "Silverthon School", he immediately exploited his dribbling skills and agility of movements learned on the sand of his native town, to lead the school team to victory in the student championship: in the final won 6-0 he scored all six goals for his team! (photo 5 with the cup)). “It was the first time I played on grass fields – GianCarlo remembers nostalgically – and also with a real soccer ball!”. He immediately landed in the youth team of Toronto-Italia, then the flagship team of our Italian community. His first coach was Tullio Labardo but his great mentor was Alberto De Rosa with whom he played for five years, winning several trophies. Right-wing, sudden shots, dribblings, feints and counter feints, and many goals, so much so that he earned the nickname of "Seven Up". But with football at the time you didn't eat...and here he was, already at the age of sixteen, following a career as a hairdresser which led him, together with his brother, to open several beauty salons, including at the Eaton Center, lead important television shows such as the “GianCarlo Makeovers” on CFTO, Channel 9 at the time, and then moved to the United States to Greenwich and then to Miami, Florida. And then the “fame and notoriety” with his salons and his hairdressing techniques, advertised in a wide range of fashion magazines such as Lucky, Vogue, Cosmopolitan, and Glamour. And important meetings and friendships such as those with the former president of Juventus and Italian football star Giampiero Boniperti. In short, a story to tell and remember for this "Golden Ball" in the world of beauty!

(foto 10)
