Gertrude's obituary

After a difficult battle with cancer, Gertrude Patricia Boswell passed away peacefully on March 23, 2021 surrounded by her loved ones.

To live in the hearts of those you leave behind is not to die.

She was born August 9, 1934 in Cincinnati Ohio and was one of 9 children. She was preceded in death by her parents William & Gertrude, her brothers William Jr, John , Joseph, and Jim Doherty, and Mary Puglisi and her two daughters, Margaret and Elizabeth, and is survived by two of her sisters, Margaret Rieger and Catherine Stewart and four children, Mary Anne LaPlaca, Katherine McVeigh, David Joe Boswell and Donald Boswell who blessed her with 16 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

She was a root, green if you can believe it. Her Irish roots grew, and each new bud that grew, was helped along by her strong and dependable presence.
Gertrude was described as the Ambassador of Friends House Community. She championed for those who were unable to help themselves. The word "no" was not part of her vocabulary. She was fearless and forever championed for the underdog. She was passionate about unions and its roots as well as politics. Gertrude was a fiercely dedicated/tenacious/strong/loyal/independent mother, raising six children and then embarking on a career in the Taft Hartley Trust Fund administration. She always had "one foot" in the political arena.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Peters Church in Olney Maryland. I leave you with the words she always left at the end of every phone call. Take care. Not just of yourself, but take care of each other. Take care of the new buds that are growing everywhere. When you find the new green that grows, that’s where you find her.
