Gertie's obituary
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of an extraordinary woman, Gertie 'Wheezy' Smith, who left us on May 2, 2024. Born on July 1, 1950, Gertie enriched our lives with her vivacious spirit, strong resilience, and unflinching love for her family.
Fondly known as Wheezy to some, she had a persona that could light up a room. She was polite, loving, funny, and her laughter was contagious.
Gertie deeply loved her children and cherished valuable time spent with them. She is survived by her daughters, Jerye Pyle and Thersa Parker, and her sons, Matt Pyle, Jimmy Parker, and Shane Schmidt. Her love for her children was her ultimate cause, and she dedicated her life to providing them with unconditional love and understanding. Gertie was predeceased by her brothers, J.C. Smith and Walter Smith.
She had varied interests that made her the person she was. Her fondness for Elvis and Guns n’ Roses was well known. Her favorite movie was 'Powder', and she enjoyed the simple joy of fishing. She possessed a strong affinity for coffee, savoring the aroma that lingered after each sip.
The lessons she imparted and the values she embodied will forever be a part of her legacy. She taught us the meaning of unconditional love and the power of strength and resilience in the face of adversity. Her children, whom she cared about so dearly, are a testament to her legacy of love and resilience.
As we mourn the loss of our beloved Gertie, we take solace in the fact that her life was a beacon of inspiration that touched many. She will be deeply missed yet forever remembered in our hearts and memories. Her strength, resilience, and infectious laughter will continue to inspire us and guide us on our journey through life.
