Gerrit's obituary
Gerrit was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota to Douglas Shilman and Sandra (Mohr) Shilman in 1959. He was the oldest of three children.
Gerrit was an intelligent man who graduated college with a 4.0 business major. Before becoming an accountant he worked as a principal of a Christian school in Shelton Wa. He was a hard working person who as a young man spent Christmas seasons bailing trees to earn extra money as well as working in the Bering sea as a crab fisherman. Gerrit was an adventure seeker. He loved to fish, hike, camp, and go on road trips. He enjoyed collecting coins and guns and was fascinated by history. Gerrit was a generous man and he left behind numerous cards from people who were thanking him for his generosity.
Lastly and most importantly Gerrit loved the Lord. Just weeks before he passed away he told others that he had “found the Lord” and this is how he will be remembered. God in His own generosity saved Gerrit. He has now truly found the Lord.
Gerrit is survived by his children Ben Shilman and Brianna Mayfield as well as six grandchildren and his siblings Shawn Mayfield and Sterling Shilman. He is preceded in death by his father and mother.
