It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Gerri Kaplan at the age of 85 at her home on March 26, 2020. Gerri was born and raised in San Francisco, relocating to San Mateo and Terra Linda with her husband, Merv and their children. She was predeceased by Merv, after 62 years of marriage, in 2015. Gerri is survived by her sisters June Kronberg (Gene) and Cynthia Nelidow (Dimitri), and predeceased by her parents, Esther Buttner (Eric) and Leo Strauss (Ginny). She will be sorely missed by her children, Lawrence Kaplan (Marie), Pam Martell (Mike), Julie Kaplan (Jim) and Brian Kaplan (Stacey). She was a sweet, unconditionally loving grandmother, with 11 grandchildren; Alexander (Christina), Elliot, Aviva and Ariela Kaplan; Griffin and Shafer Martell; Christina and Nicolas Monaco; and Isabella, Colby and Ava Kaplan and great-grandmother to Gianna Monaco. Gerri was a truly “liberated woman,” returning to school when her children were still in their formative years, and graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in her 40’s in Medical Records Technology and later a Master’s Degree in Health Administration. She enjoyed a long career working for the State of California (not retiring until the young age of 81!) as a Medical Record Consultant, inspecting health care facilities throughout the state. In keeping with her wishes, a private graveside service has taken place with a Celebration of Life to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center or Richmond Rescue Mission.
