Gerda's obituary

Loving mother, Gerda Bernardina Aleide Withag Oudegeerdink, passed away on January 16th after a short battle with cancer at age 95. She spent her final years at the Stonespring of Vandalia facility where she passed peacefully Monday evening.

Gerda, born to Gradus Withag and Katharina Dropmann on July 11th, 1927 in Delden, Overijssel, Netherlands. A member of the Catholic Church from a very young age, Gerda participated in church services and events alongside her family members as often as she could.

After moving to Canada and then the United States in her early twenties, Gerda was a seamstress for many years. She had a passion for sewing, crafting and much more. Gerda carried brightness and laughter into every room she entered. Later on in her life, she attended Harmony Grandmother's Club regularly where she made lifelong friendships that she cherished so deeply.

Now that Gerda has passed into the arms of our Lord, we should remind ourselves that while this is the end of Gerda's physical life on Earth, it's the beginning of an eternal and beautiful journey for her. Gerda joins her husband, children, parents, and siblings in Heaven. She is survived by many loving family members, including her daughter in law Sharon, grandchildren Andi, Madison, and Lee, great grandchildren, Anakin, Lyla, and Lucca, as well as her many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the Netherlands.

Memorial mass will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, February 25th, 2023., at Our Lady of Mercy Church - Our Lady of Grace Parish, 220 W Siebenthaler Ave, Dayton, OH 45405. Body donation to Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine.

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.” – John 14:1-3
