Gerard's obituary

Gerard Owen Kilroy passed away Friday, March 21st at the age of 71. Jerry, as his family and friends knew him, was a devout Catholic, Husband, Father, and Professional. Jerry was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on August 18th, 1953 to parents Christine and Raymond Kilroy. They soon moved to Keyport, New Jersey where he grew up with his older brother Michael, and younger siblings Tina and Ray. As a boy Jerry was involved in Boy Scouts, along with his father, who served as his scout master. As a teenager he joined the Sea Cadets with his best friend, David Hance. In High School, Jerry excelled at sports earning letters in Football, Wrestling, and Track & Field. His tenacity on the football field earned him a scholarship to Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas where he graduated in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in Biology. He continued his education at KU Med, earning a degree in Respiratory Therapy in 1977 followed by an MBA from Webster University in 1989. Jerry worked as a Respiratory Therapist at several hospitals in the Kansas City area before moving to Rolla, Missouri to become the Director of Cardiopulmonary at Phelps County Regional Medical Center in 1989. While in Rolla, he helped start a program at the local vocational technical school training others in several medical diagnostic disciplines. He often taught night classes to soldiers at Ft. Leonard Wood as a way to promote his love of education while serving his community. In 2005, Jerry relocated to Brunswick, Georgia to run the Cardiopulmonary department at Southeast Georgia Health System where he worked until retirement in 2017. He loved to tell stories, so much so that his children had them "numbered". Jerry stayed active in his local communities by volunteering with the Salvation Army, serving on the parish council at St. Patrick's (Rolla) and St. Francis (Brunswick), and leading his sons Boy Scout troops. He was preceded in death by his mother, Chrstine, father Raymond, sister Tina, and brothers Michael and Ray. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, April, and his children David, Kristin, and Mitchell. Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 26th at St. Patrick's parish in Rolla.
