Background

Loving father, Gerard W. Inguagiato (79), passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, surrounded by his children.

Gerard, fondly known as Jerry, was born to Peter and Olga Inguagiato, on February 2, 1944. He is survived by his three children, Nicollee Inguagiato, Michelle Weiss, and Gerard Inguagiato. Jerry is also survived by his siblings, Peter Inguagiato, Steven Inguagiato, Ann Lader, Olivia Inguagiato, and Rita Martini, as well as his grandchildren, Kirsten and Kent Weiss, and Levi and Luca Lombardo-Inguagiato.

A native New Yorker, Jerry was a respected physical education teacher and coach at Irwin Altman Middle School 172 Queens and a sports official for many years. His dedication to education was evident in his teaching style. He was a lifelong mentor, truly living in his own words "Teaching is an infectious disease. Once you catch it, it will be in your blood for the rest of your life."

In addition to his love for sports, he took pride in maintaining his 1966 Candy Apple-Red convertible Mustang. He was a dapper gentleman with the voice of an angel and a skilled guitar player who loved to dance the night away.

Jerry's influence extended far beyond his family. Despite living with both heart and McCardle's diseases, he was a strong-willed individual who faced each day with courage, determination and someone you could count on in a time of need. He was a man of many talents and strengths, a true craftsman, never cutting corners or settling for anything less than perfection. He always got the job done with an unwavering sense of pride and purpose.

Jerry will be remembered as a father, grandfather, friend, and, most of all, a teacher. He lived with a quiet strength and a sense of honor that inspired many. All who knew him will always carry the lifelong lessons he taught. While we mourn the loss of Jerry, we are blessed to have had him in our lives. We take comfort in knowing his legacy will continue and that he is now at peace.
