Born in Toronto on September 15, 1943, Gerri passed quietly on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at the Ottawa General Hospital after a long, brave battle with pancreatic cancer.

She is survived by her three children, Deborah (Craig), Michael (Jen), and Jo (David), and grandchildren Joey, Ethan, and Johnny. She is preceded in death by her beloved parents (Michael & Vera Volpe).

As a Registered Nurse, Gerri was never at a loss for straightforward, practical, and comforting advice. She courageously worked through the SARS epidemic of 2003 while at the North York General Hospital and ultimately cared for thousands of people over her career with competence and compassion.

With a love of world travel, social events, shopping, and golf, Gerri excelled on the links, winning many tournaments at the Toronto Hunt Club. In later years after moving to Ottawa, she revived her passion for bridge and was always a welcome addition to any card game with her fantastic conversation and wit.

An avid animal lover, Gerri began her collection while nursing in Malaysia in the early 1960s, with ducks, chickens, cats, a dog, and a mischievous monkey. Over the years she loved her West Highland Terriers (Nessie, Fifer & Barney), and leaves behind a beloved Pomeranian (Wally).

All who knew Gerri will miss her unique indefatigable spirit and the truly exceptional sparkle she brought to this world.
