Dear Judy, Jim, Pam and Scott,

Many hugs & love go out to you and your families. Keep the memories close to your heart.

It was a pleasure and an honor to work with Dr Mandell during our ID fellowship days at UVA '01 - '04, and especially on the consult service at the hospital. I had been invited to join friends at the NCAA national championship football game in '03, with all-expenses paid. When I found out I would be rotating with Dr Mandell during that time, I declined the invitation. I told him about that later and he said "Well, glad you made a least two good decisions in your life...Carin [my wife of now 27 years] was the other one in case you didn't know what I was talking about."  We had the pleasure of dining out with he and Judy and saw him at the UVA pool. He clearly loved his family, and we all loved him for that example and for what he gave to our profession and to us.

A great loss. Loved the guy. Owe him a lot. Always supported me.

Was a Visiting Prof. @ U. Va. when my daughter & son-in-law were Residents there.  Lovely dinner at his home.

Wrote chapters for him in the ID textbk. when he was Co-Editor.

Judy & Gerry were contemporaries at Cornell.

I see we overlapped at Stuyvesant too!

So sorry to hear about your Dad, Jimmy and Mandell family.  What a great loss.

An obituary almost worthy of this remarkable man. Love, Steve and Michela
