Hugh's obituary
Gerald Hubert "Hugh" Kemp passed away on January 06, 2023 at age 62 after battling cancer for five months.
Hugh was born to William “Bill” Harold and Jo Moore Kemp on December 13, 1960 in Nashville, Tennessee. He grew up in Clarkston, Georgia. As a young man Hugh loved all things sports related and excelled at football, basketball and baseball. Hugh was a starting pitcher at the University of Georgia and subsequently pitched in the Major League Baseball minor leagues. He spent five years in Triple A playing for the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates. Hugh spent most of his post-baseball career in the mortgage industry. Hugh was a dedicated volunteer and coached countless boys in baseball, football and basketball and girls in softball. Throughout his life Hugh loved his Georgia Bulldogs.
Hugh held an unwavering devotion to his Lord and Savior, which he shared with those who surrounded him. Hugh also was a devoted husband, father and son. He was predeceased in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Carol Pace Kemp, who he met at the University of Georgia and married on February 8, 1986; his children, Alexandria Kemp Baker (Austin), Amy Kemp Gennaro (Vincent), and Ross Michael Kemp; and granddaughters Ellison Ruby Baker and Grace Carolyn Gennaro. Hugh is also survived by his sister, Emily Kemp Rogers (Larry), brother William Harold “Hal” Kemp Jr. (Lynn), mother-in-law, Ruby Dyer Pace and many other in-laws, nieces and nephews. Romans 5: 1-5
