Gary was a wonderful person, and he was terrific to work with.    He was thoughtful and wise.   He gave excellent service as a leader at Brigham Young University.  I extend my condolences to the family.

I currently serve in the position at BYU where Gary once served. His influence and legacy live on at BYU, where he made an impact on the lives of many people and on the institution. His examples of kindness and competence are things for us to all remember and follow.

Flynn Chivers

Flynn took his grandson Zeke (7) visiting with him one month and of course he came home with a jar of jam. Zeke talked often about his visit. when he was told about Gary’s passing he said “that makes me sad, I really liked that guy”. A few minutes later Zeke asked his mom “do you think they will give everyone a jar of jam at Gary’s funeral”.

I will miss you greatly, your shy smile you would give me, your big strong hands & your big hugs but most of all your kind words of inspiration.

I remember the first time I met Gary & Karen...They were the first people my fiance introduced me to when I came to Utah. They made me feel so welcome with their out pouring of love & acceptance. That was just the beginning of a long friendship with many holidays, birthdays, vacations & Fathers Days spent in their presence. Gary always surprised me with his fun antics with the Grandchildren. My favorite was when he showed up with green hair as Hulk Smash. I can't imagine how long it took for it to wash out of his fabulous white hair.

He accepted my family & kids as his own, his infuence will be with us for many years and will forever be in our hearts.

I hope the memories of your lives with him will help fill the void of his loss.  Be well KG
