• Gerald "Jerry" Carter, 90, of Houston, TX passed away unexpectedly on November 01, 2022 after a surgery. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Jerry was predeceased by his wife, Bertie Evelyn Wells Carter and is survived by his 3 children, Diana Owen & husband Jeff, David Carter & wife Misti, and Robert Kirk & wife Kim; as well as numerous grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, and his brother, Charles Judson Carter of Houston.  Jerry graduated from Lee Edwards High School in Asheville, NC in 1951, then went on to study at Mars Hill University, earning an Associates degree in 1953.  

He moved to Texas in 1955 to attend the University majoring in Geology. He took a job at HEB to make ends meet, and thats where he met and married Bertie. They made their home in Houston where they raised their three children, Rob, David and Diana. (They were married for 63 years, until Bertie passed away.) Jerry took a job as a Research Lab Assistant at WKM industries, which changed ownership several times, but Jerry stayed on until he retired.

Jerry loved singing and was a member of the Lee Edwards High School Chorus. As an adult he continued to sing  in his church choir and enjoyed attending Gospel Music Concerts. He and Bertie even went on a Bill Gaither cruise to Alaska to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. They were both avid antiques collectors and their home was filled with Victorian furniture as well as cut glass, china, and especially a magnificent collection of lamps.

Football was a passion and with his brother, Chuck, as close as his phone, he would watch the games together and discuss the various plays and statistics. He especially enjoyed hunting and joined friends and family members on hunting expeditions for many years and kept his freezer full of wild delicacies. 

Bible study and worship were important aspects of the family's life and he regularly attended the Mens' Prayer Breakfast at his church until he became the caregiver for his wife, Bertie. After she passed he was still home-bound because of Covid.
