George's obituary
It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved George Washington Jr. on August 20, 2025. Born on January 14, 1929, George lived a long, fulfilling, and grateful 96 years, touching many lives with his kindness, generosity, humility, and friendly nature.
He is survived by his daughters Jackie Clark and Deidree Washington, sons Tyrus and Deante Washington, grandsons Lonnie Cola, Devaughn Hatter and Jaysom Washing and granddaughter Jasmyn Washington. He was also the former spouse of Ruby Washington, whom he wed in 1969, and maintained a valued friendship with. Unfortunately, he was predeceased by his son Darren Washing, grandson Devante Davis, brothers Robert Watson and Autis Washington, sister Clara Mae Washington and his mother Callie Mae Hewitt.
George had a zest for life that was evident in his various passions. He was an ardent fan of the blues, particularly the music of Johnny Taylor, BB King, Bobby Blue Bland, and R&B artist R Kelly. In addition to his love for music, he was also a fan of television shows, his favorites being westerns and "Sanford & Son". Among his favorite sports and teams, he held a fondness for the 49ers.
George was an avid gamer, with Black Jack being a game of choice and he often enjoyed the thrill of gaming at the casino. A standout favorite performance to watch for George was that of his favorite basketball player, Lebron James. He was also a champion in pool, counting it as one of his greatest achievements.
Known to many for his love of St. Thomas Virgin Islands, it was among his favorite vacation destinations. His love for good food was well known and he particularly relished oxtails and gravy, rice and green beans. His life motto, "If you know better, you’ll do better", reflects the profound wisdom that he loved to share with others.
His legacy will truly be one of kindness and generosity. He was a loving and generous soul whose humility and friendliness touched everyone who knew him. George Washington Jr. will be deeply missed, but his light and legacy will continue to impact the lives of his family and friends.
