George David Tomes, Sr.,72, passed from this world peacefully surrounded by family on November 2, 2025, at his home in Waddy, Kentucky.
George was born on August 12, 1953, in Louisville, Kentucky to George and Patricia Funk Tomes. George had a great love for music and entertaining people. After graduating from Waggener High School, he pursued his music career to which he dedicated many years of his life. George began a second career in the Dallas, Georgia area and graduated with his Doctorate of Chiropractic, Certification in Nutrition and Physical Therapy from Life University. Known as Dr. George, he practiced as a Chiropractor for the last 20 years. He had a great love of helping people to heal and guide them to a path of healthy living. He was a member of Bethel Methodist Church.
George was a loving husband to Shirley Joy Crisler for the past 51 years. Together, they raised 3 children: Rebekah, Jay, and Jennifer. He loved being with his family and especially his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. George was the ultimate storyteller. With a lifetime of his experiences, he could bring so much laughter into the room whether it was family gatherings or getting together with friends. He had a great spark for life.
George is survived by his loving wife, Shirley, his children Rebekah Temple (David), Jay Tomes, Jennifer Galvan (John); his 10 Grandchildren Stephen (Ren), Cherokee, Geoff (Leslie), Brennan (Raven), Trevor (Tori), Addyson, Pierce, Conner, Gianna, and Cole and his great granddaughter, Railyn. He also leaves behind his brother Tom Tomes (Kathy) and his sister Cindy Partain (Jeff) and many nieces and nephews who will miss his boisterous voice and contagious laughter. He was preceded in death by his father George Tomes, his mother Patricia Funk Tomes, and his sister Teresa Tomes Sulk.
A Memorial service will be held on November 22, 2025 at City Place - Pavilion 1, 112 South 1st Street, LaGrange, KY at 1 p.m. with a Celebration of Life to follow from 2 p.m. -4:30 p.m.
