George's obituary

George “Yogi” Thomann of Waltham, MA passed away peacefully Sunday, January 2nd, 2022 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston after a valiant battle with cancer. He was 63.

Born on May 6, 1958 in Medford, MA. He resided in Massachusetts his entire life and was a true Bostonian. George graduated from Everett High School with the Class of 1976 and obtained an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration and Management from Bunker Hill Community College in 1978. Always competitive in nature; he played numerous sports and became a little league coach later in life as a parent. He was employed in the Telecommunications industry as a Network Engineer for much of his life, until illness forced him to retire last year. George was a diehard and passionate fan of the Boston sports teams and, like a true Boston fan, he was critical of his teams until the very end!

His family and his friends were always first and foremost; he was loyal, generous, kind, and caring. He cherished the time and special occasions he spent with everyone. He lit up any room with his personality and humor. His laughter was truly infectious and George couldn’t help but make people laugh. He will be missed dearly by those that had the privilege of knowing him and calling him a friend.

He is predeceased by his parents, Doris Gillis and George Thomann as well as his brother, Bruce Thomann. We take comfort in knowing that he is reunited with them in heaven, along with treasured furry friends, Shannon Rose and Zeke.

George is survived by his beloved wife, Donna Thomann of Waltham, MA; his cherished children George Thomann Jr. and his wife Jocelyn; Jamie Cloran and her husband Damien; and Christopher Thomann and his wife Kristina, as well as his step-son, John Lordan. He was also a proud “Papa” to eight grandchildren; Pyper, Cameron, Alexis, Malekai, Sera, River, Gia, and Kieran, whom he loved dearly. In addition, he is survived by countless extended family members and close friends.

Out of genuine concern for those we love and care so much about, no funeral or memorial service is immediately planned at this time. We hope to gather in the future to honor and remember the love and friendship George shared with those he touched in a public gathering when it is safer to do so.

Throughout his battle with cancer, George frequently commented on the children he would see supported through the Jimmy Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The bravery and strength of the kids he saw fighting cancer alongside him, helped give him strength on the tough days. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of George Thomann to support cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
