Those of us that came up with max and ran with the “wings” track club I don’t need to say much…those were the best times of our lives. George was like a second father to a lot of us and impacted so many lives in this community. George could get the best out of all of us by just being George no need for yelling or screaming this made all of us want to give 100% because we didn’t want to let him down. Funny thing is for a soft spoken man some how someway his voice would slice through the crowd it’s weird to explain but I was always put at ease because I knew no matter where I was on that track his voice would hit me like a warm hug!! Thank you coach
I was a wild boy back then, and you couldn't tell me nothing, but coach Stews kind words echoed in my head, and I really did take his advice. I learned many lessons from this man and he taught me how to be a head coach. He will be truly missed, and forever have a place in my mind and my heart.

Coach Stew was more than just a coach, he was the kindest soul I’ve ever encountered. He taught me more than just how to run, jump and hurdle he taught me the lessons of kindness, patience and hard work. I hope he knew just how closely we as athletes held him in our hearts. My condolences to his family and fellow athletes. May he get the rest and peace that he deserved.

Coach Steward saw something in me from a very early age. I don’t remember much from my childhood, but I remember that conversation - the one he had with me and my parents about my potential, the potential to be an elite runner. He never gave up on me - despite my hard head, slow to emerge confidence and inability to see what he saw. I never felt alone. I felt capable and in control during a time in my life that felt so uncontrollable. That is why I coach. That is what I aim to emulate as a coach. His legacy will live forever in me and all I pray to do, is to do him proud. As so many others, I will miss you.
Sending love and prayers to George, or Coach Stew as most of his athletes knew him by, and his family. He always had the softest voice but made the biggest impact on his athletes. He had the biggest heart and never failed to be the light in dark situations. His knowledge of track and field is unmatched, and his legacy will carry on forever. Many athletes would not be where they are without Coach Stew. One love🤍.
This man supported all his athletes whether he was your coach or not. If he saw you running, throwing, jumping, you knew he was supporting you. Rest in paradise Stew. I hope all of your athletes are making you proud from heaven
Sending hugs and my condolences to Michael and the Coach’s loved ones. I had the honor of meeting coach in the 8th grade— I like many were inspired and encouraged in the love of track and wouldn’t be the same athlete without him. More than just a track coach, he had a very loving and caring heart for everyone and I wouldn’t be the same person today without him. ❤️
