George's obituary
George Walter Selby passed away on May 29th, 2022 in his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. George was 74 years old, born April 2nd, 1948 to Troy and Orine Selby in Newport News, Virginia. He was a true mama’s boy and his family cared for her, as she cared for them, for years after moving to Houston, Texas. He leaves behind to cherish his memory: favorite sister ‘Becky Jo’ Schmelter and her husband Dave, two daughters of his first marriage to Marie Daniels, Travis Harbuck and her husband Jeff and children Kaitlin and Jake, Heather Kalife and her husband Jerry and children Benjamin and Madison, as well as a son and daughter of his second marriage to Lori Selby, Samuel Selby and child Freya, and daughter Steevie Orine Selby. He is preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Orine Selby, and his sister Nancy Cowan. Beyond raising his children, he was very proud of all his accomplishments and awards he received over the 40 years he spent building his career in new home sales in the Greater Houston metropolitan area. His customers became friends and throughout the years would thank him for helping them make their homes a dream come true. Without exaggerating, George could sell a mouse trap to a mouse. George loved bird hunting, fishing, and cutting up with his buddies Lanny, Dwight, and Sid to name a few. He had great recipes that he would cook for his family and friends specializing in breakfast and amazing seafood spreads. He learned well from his mom, Orine. He was never shy to approach a beautiful woman being the sharp dressed, handsome man that he was. He strongly believed in always presenting the best version of yourself no matter how you were feeling. He had such a way with words that he always knew how to lift you up or make you smile when needed. When he wasn’t sure what to say you’d probably hear “that’s baseball”, or “it’ll be better by the time I get married”- which is a line he picked up from Orine. Dad was a wonderful father, brother, and friend that will be missed by many. The friends he made while sharing margaritas meant more to him than they probably know. He never met a stranger or left you without a smile. As Dad would say, “come back and see us!"
