George's obituary

George Paul Schuhmacher (74) a resident of Katy, Texas, left this world Saturday, January 18, 2025.

George was born on May 14, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Roy Peter Schuhmacher and Carol Elizabeth Blodgett Schuhmacher. He grew up in Amana, Iowa where he loved playing sports, especially basketball. He had countless stories he enjoyed sharing, especially about his brother Marty and himself.

George attended The University of Iowa to study Accountancy. He married Nickala Kay Welsh on June 13, 1970, and was married for seventeen years. During their union, they had three daughters, Meghan Rae, Kristin Danielle, and Jaclyn Nicole. During his life, George also lived in Minnesota, Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas. After retiring from Doonan Trucking Company, as the company accountant, he settled in Katy, Texas.

Family meant everything to him – his entire home was decorated with family portraits and artwork from his children and grandchildren. He went by the name Opa, not just to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but to everyone. He loved being an Opa.

Survivors include his children, Meghan Stallings (Billy Simms) of Lawton, OK, Kristin (Scott) Engum of Katy, and Jaclyn (J.R.) Farley of Katy; 7 grandchildren, Sara (Joel) Nelson, Austin (LauralLee) O’Bannon, Zachary (Anna) Farley, Isabella Anderson, Allison Farley, Brody Engum, and Carson Engum; 2 great-grandchildren, Aspyn and Deagan O’Bannon; and one brother Martin (Jan) Schuhmacher of Marion, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Barbara Hebl Peshek, and his sister Karen Mary Schuhmacher who died in infancy.

The family will have a private celebration of life ceremony in his honor at the Wichita Wildlife Refuge in Medicine Park, Oklahoma.
