George's obituary
George Allan Reynolds, Sr., 97, of Middletown, CT, and formerly of Stratford, CT, passed away Mar. 16, 2024 after a 15 year battle with dementia. He was the husband of the former Doris Carmichael, who survives.
Born in Treadwell, NY, Aug. 8, 1926, he was the son of the late Allan and Ellen (Wright) Reynolds. He was a 1944 graduate of Franklin Central School. Immediately after his graduation, George enlisted in the US Army, fighting for his country overseas in Japan and Germany. After attaining the rank of Pilot, 1st Class, and the war being over, George stayd in thhe service until 1949, instilling great patriotism in his life.
Upon his return home, George used his flight knowledge to earn him a job at Sikorsky, where he put in 50 good years of engineering work, before his retirement in 2000. With his new job, George relocated to Stratford, CT, where he met Doris Carmichael at a party in 1951. After two years of courtship, they were married on Sep. 3, 1953 at the St. James Church, celebrating 70 years last fall.
George and Doris were quite the loving parents, raising their children with traditional values all the while managing their childrens’ busy lives. Their home on Sands Place served as a place welcome to all; Nobody was a stranger to the Reynolds.
After George’s retirement, he enjoyed watching television, playing golf, and taking strolls throughout the neighborhood. He was well known at the Stratford Antique Center, as he would walk there with his Doris almost every day before his stroke in 2008, that caused severe amnesia, causing Doris to sadly place him in a home.
While the last 15 years of George’s life were very sad and torturous to watch, the family is overcome with joy that he is up in Heaven, in no pain, surrounded by his parents, (Allan and Ellen) his daughter Karen Reynolds Plachet, and his brothers Lavern and Hubert Reynolds, and his sisters Eleanora Reynolds Puckett, Helen Reynolds Boffascuolo, and Albertina Reynolds Fieldway.
George is survived by his wife of 70 years, Doris (Carmichael) Reynolds, a son Mark (Kirsten) Reynolds, and a daughter, Melissa (Patrick) Germann, seven grandchildren; Jeremy (Haley) Germann, and Patrick (Abbie) Germann, Brandon (Megyn) Plachet, Thomas (Eva) Plachet, and Liela Plachet, Desmond Reynolds, and Anne Reynolds, and ten great-grandchildren, Braelonn, Michaella, Sopheigh, Dayton, Lillian, George, and Ruby Plachet, Delia, Roy, and Ella Reynolds. Also surviving are two sisters, Joyce Reffington, of Oneida, NY, and Marie Parker, of Titusville, FL, as well as a plethora of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held by the family on Mar. 22, 2024 at the home of the deceased, with immediate service at St. James Church, with burial at the St. Michael’s Cemetery.
