George's obituary

George Edwin Obrist III passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at the young age of 57.

George was born and raised in Grove City, Ohio. He was hardworking and diligent, and held many job titles over the years. He was part of the US Army Reserve for 10 years and began working in public safety for the City of Columbus. He then worked for the Ohio Department of Corrections until 2001, in both adult and juvenile correctional centers. He retired early due to a back injury but continued to work many jobs after retirement.

When he wasn’t working, George enjoyed being outdoors--gardening, fishing, hunting--and spending time with his family. He knew no strangers and loved having conversations with everyone he met. He was a loving husband, devoted father, loyal friend, and had an incredible sense of humor.

George is survived by his caring wife April; daughters Caitlin (Ryan) Fitzpatrick, Jennifer (David) Shaffer, and Abbey Obrist; grandchildren, William and Jack Fitzpatrick; brothers Randy Hammond and David (Jeannie) Livesay; sisters Ellen (Dave) Nelson, Kathleen (Brian) Chatterton, and Marianne (Don) Cosper; and countless other friends and family members. George was preceded in passing by his mother, Alta Mae Livesay.

Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 pm on Saturday, April 10, at Canaan Land Church (2777 Gantz Road, Grove City, OH), where funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm, Pastor Shawn Beauchamp officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Canaan Land Church or the Hilliard Division of Police Programming Fund (5171 Northwest Parkway, Hilliard, OH 43026); George and his family were endlessly grateful for the support he received from both over the years. Condolences may be left in George’s online guestbook at https://everloved.com/life-of….
