George's obituary
On Tuesday, July 11, 2023, George Lavern James, 55, passed away after a long battle with sickness. George was born to the late George “Tin” Lieutenent James and Gloria Ann (Harrison) James on March 9, 1968 in Florence, SC. As the second oldest of 6, and the oldest boy, he was a leader among his siblings, oftentimes leading them into hilarious situations.
During adulthood, George developed a love for the culinary arts. For over 35 years he worked in the restaurant industry including several restaurants in both Florence, SC and Atlanta, GA, where he first relocated to in 2006. He was known for his love of cooking and his willingness to provide a meal for family and friends during gatherings especially when they requested his orange chicken. He also had a great love for cars and anything automobile related. A 1974 Chevy Nova was his baby and he put hours of love and care into its repair and modification. In 2013, he dedicated his life to Jehovah God and symbolized that dedication by a public baptism identifying himself as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. In 2020, George, along with his mother and grandmother, permanently relocated back to their hometown of Florence, SC.
George’s personality was larger than life. He was well known as a fun loving jokester and could make anyone laugh, even on their worst day. He was one of the most genuine and generous people you could ever meet and he made those around him feel comfortable and as if they could be themselves.
George will be lovingly missed by his mother, Gloria James of Florence, SC; grandmother, Catherine King of Florence, SC; siblings, LaRosa (Carl) Thomas of Florence, SC, Reginald James of Lithonia, GA, Yolanda James of Marietta, GA, Kimberly (Larry, d.) Pope of Macon, GA, and Tamalyn James of Marietta, GA; many beloved uncles and aunts, treasured nieces, nephews and cousins, and a host of supportive grand nieces, grand nephews, other family and friends.
