George's obituary
George Joseph Hreha Jr., 66, of Eclectic, Alabama, passed away on November 8, 2023, leaving the world a little less vibrant. George was born on December 12, 1956, to George & Marge Hreha in New Jersey, and raised with brothers John, Jimmy, and Steven, and sister Dorothy. George followed his parents when they moved to Alabama in the 1980s, and in the late 90s, started his career at Russell Corp. In June of 2007, George met the love of his life, Delight Barber, and in 2018, George retired from Russell Corp to become Delight’s full-time caregiver when her health failed.
George was a man of authenticity - what you saw was what you got with him. He was honest and trustworthy, and had a heart larger than a football field, which overflowed with compassion for all of God’s creatures, great and small. He loved animals and had a way with every person that he met. He had a very outgoing personality and never met a stranger. You could always count on him to be smiling and laughing, unless you messed with someone he loved! Then, he defended his loved one with the ferocity of a linebacker.
George was extremely organized and methodical. He liked everything to be in its place, neat and tidy. He loved to cook and was very talented in the kitchen. His recipe book was his playbook, and he never fumbled! He loved to try new recipes and prided himself on his culinary masterpieces. George also had a great love of football and cheered fervently for the Carolina Panthers and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
George is survived by his brothers, John and Jimmy, his sister, Dorothy, his daughters, Lisa and Jennifer, his stepdaughters Tiffany and Rachel, his grandchildren Alexander, Arianna, and Lilian, and his wife, Delight. Now that he has gone home to be with the Lord, he reunites with his parents, George Sr. and Marge, as well as his brother Steven.
George leaves behind a legacy of love, selflessness, humility, and wisdom. He will be greatly missed. A celebration of his life is taking place 6 PM, Sunday, December 17th, at Living Word Church in Eclectic, AL. We will remember him for his zest for life and heart of gold. He may have left the field, but his spirit is forever a part of our team.
