George Erving Hampton, Jr. was born September 6, 1942 in Augusta, GA to George, E. Hampton, Sr., and Nora Jones. He was raised by stepfather, Alfred Jones. After living a full life of love, family, and wonderful memories, George departed this earthly journey on March, 13, 2026 just outside of Dayton, OH.

As a youth, George worked as a caddy in Augusta, GA. Later, he was an entrepreneur through his own drywall company and trucking enterprise named G&D Trucking. George also enjoyed working as a mechanic. In his free time, George loved building things, including proudly constructing a sunroom from scratch for his wife.

George is preceded in passing by his parents, loving wife Dorothy Mae, children Tamra Brooks and Elmer Tanner, and brothers John, Alfred & Henry Jones.

George’s legacy lives on through his children Marshall (Cherie) Tanner, Eric Tanner, Abdul Hakeem David (Asha) Rasheed, and Rodreigez “Roddy” Tanner; Sister-in-Law, Vicky Jones; Siblings Michael Hampton and Pastor Dr. Mamie Wilson; 13 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren 2nd great-grandchildren and 3rd great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, loved ones, family, and friends, including special long-time friend “Sloppy Joe.”

George’s warm smile and love for life, family, and friends will truly be missed by all who were blessed to know him.
