George Leon Dorros, beloved father, son, brother, husband, grandfather, uncle, and friend, died on December 6, 2024, in Tucson, Arizona. He was 81 years old.
George was born in New York City. His father was a diplomat, so George grew up in several different countries, including Luxembourg, Algeria, the French Congo, and Nigeria. George completed a Bachelor’s degree, a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), and earned a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Organizational Development. A lifelong advocate for global health, George worked for more than 30 years with the World Health Organization (WHO), stationed in Manila, Philippinesand Geneva, Switzerland, and managing projects in Asia and Africa.
George was a remarkable individual who embraced life with passion, curiosity, warmth, and generosity. A true citizen of the world, he was a visionary thinker, an avid traveler, and a lover of philosophy and deep, meaningful conversation. His life was enriched by his wide-ranging interests, from his love of spy thrillers to enjoyment of outdoor activities, enjoying tennis, hiking, and skiing. He was also a devoted member of his community, serving as a council member and lay minister in his Catholic parish in Geneva.
A natural born leader and facilitator, George had an extraordinary gift for connecting with others. His generous spirit radiated kindness, warmth, caring, compassion, and open-mindedness. He was adventuresome, loved to laugh, and found joy in the simple pleasures of life – reading, writing, and socializing with family and friends. A dynamic and broad systems thinker, he was always eager to explore ideas, share dreams, and engage deeply with the world around him. He was a “big thinker” and was quite inspirational the way he came up with a multitude of ideas and sound advice.
George lived with boundless enthusiasm and energy, always seeing life as rich with excitement and possibility. He had an engaging, warm, and supportive presence, encouraging others and inspiring those fortunate enough to know him. Georgeappreciated the beauty of nature, the joy of good food, and the connections and relationships that made life meaningful.
Above all, he was a dedicated family man who loved and cherished those closest to him. His warmth, kindness, wisdom, and love will be deeply missed, but his legacy of embracing life and inspiring others will live on in the hearts of all who knew him and loved him.
He had recently returned to the States, and was living as a resident of the Brookdale Senior Living Community in Tucson, Arizona. He died as a result of long-term health issues.
