I worked for George briefly at WHO in Geneva in the early 1990s, when he was working in district health systems. He had the pleasure of sitting in an office overlooking the UN, Lake Geneva and the French Alps. He was friendly and quick to smile and laugh. He was an early promoter of email within WHO headquarters, and I imagine he played an key role in its beginnings. My sincere condolences to his family.

I send my love , prayers and condolences for my dear cousin George. I missed seeing him since I was a little child and he was a teenager in high school. Seeing his photo brought back great memories of when we were very young. I love you dear George and will always be praying for you and your family. Your cousin , Yvette

In lieu of flowers

In lieu of flowers, consider a gift to International Rescue Committee.
I haven't had the opportunity to have more than brief visits with George in recent years - Boston, Portland, Nantucket, Tubac - but I have so many wonderful memories of him from earlier years. George was a loving, fun, warm, cheerful, caring, and helpful person. He was even able to laugh when he landed on the floor after being edged out of bed by my dog Eeyore. Jamie and I send our condolences to the family and wish we could be there with you for his funeral.  With much love to you all.
