George's obituary

George W. Cote, age 88, fell asleep in death on March 29, 2026, following a brief illness with CNS Lymphoma. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. George was born on August 3, 1937, to Leo and Jeannette (Bourque) Cote and spent most of his life in the Manchester, NH area.

He was raised in a large family of 12 siblings and left school at a young age to work in the tannery in the Amoskeag Mills in Manchester to help support his family. Despite his limited formal education, his remarkable ingenuity allowed him to become a master plumber and a master electrician, which served him well for decades. He had a unique ability to fix and repair almost anything. He has many times purchased homes, completely renovated them, moved his family in, and later sold them – only to begin the process again.

In 1957, he met and married Constance Sarah Duclos. Together, they raised seven children and shared 45 years of marriage until her passing in 2002. During these years, they enjoyed showing hospitality, camping as a family, and other outdoor activities.

George found love a second time when he met Donna Grant (Cote). Together they quickly became ‘2 peas in a pod’ and in retirement moved to sunny Florida in 2010. Affectionately known as ‘Gramps’, George will be remembered for his deep love and devotion to his family. George had a lively and spirited personality that occasionally needed to be reined in, and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

In 1969, he began studying the Bible and dedicated his life to his Heavenly Father on August 10, 1970, serving faithfully as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses until his death. He was part of the Leesburg English Congregation. George loved to dance, he loved to sing, and strike up conversations with anyone he met. He was a bit of a card shark and loved to play ‘hand & foot.’ A hardworking man, he instilled a strong work ethic into his children.

George is survived by his wife of 22 years, Donna, six of his children: David (and wife Holly), Aileen (and husband Robert), Lisa (and husband Kevin), Paula (and husband Seamus), Michelle (and husband Patrick), Moreen (and husband Bill), stepchildren: Laurie (and husband Ali), Tamera, and Christopher (and wife Tori). He was the proud grandfather to 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by 3 siblings: Armand, Eugene, and Lilliane. He was predeceased by his first wife, Connie; son Daniel; stepson-in-law Jeff; and several siblings.

Psalm 34:18 reminds us:  “Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; he saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 11th @ 2:00 pm
